Weekly Reflection # 10: Plagiarism in the Classroom

This week we talked more about plagiarism, and ethical uses of AI. I chose to reflect on the strategies we can use to minimize the risk of plagiarism.

The first way we can minimize the risk of plagarism is by understanding plagiarism. Let the students know what are the implications of plagiarism, why it’s important and what it is.

The second way we a minimize the risk of plagiarism is by teaching students how to properly seek out scholarly resources and how to cite them appropriately. We can teach the students how to use different types of citation styles and how to use different citation managers to make the process easier and more accessible.

The third way we can minimize the risk of plagiarism is by encouraging creativity in the classroom. Encourage students to create their own creative work without relying on simply regurgitating information they find online and from other sources.

The final way we can minimize the risk of plagiarism is by teaching students how to properly paraphrase and summarize with citations. This teaches students to not copy paste information and how to put it into their own words.

Overall, I think plagiarism is an important concept to understand and respect. It is important to encourage originality and respect other people’s work by citing properly.
